Ol Doinyo Lengai
This active volcano (2960 m) located in Tanzania is another interesting destination on your vacation. It belongs into the volcano system of the Great Rift Valley in East Africa. In the Maasai language “Ol Doinyo Lengai” means the Mountain of Gods. It is located north of Ngorongoro, close to the border with Kenya and Natron Lake. What makes the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano unique is that it produces lava with a high sodium content, and thus lava is expelled at relatively low temperatures. There are several other volcanoes in the area, for instance: Kerimassi, Embagai, Gelai, and Kitumbeine. Climbing this volcano is rather demanding. There are stretches where you need to walk through scree.
